Wendy's Surgery

After speaking with Dr. Jodi Smith we decided to move ahead with surgery, a craniotomy.  After a few delays: Covid positive result, and her surgeons father's failing health She went into surgery February 16,2022.  Dr. Smith opened her skull and went between the lobes of the brain to access her tumor, and remove it.

Waiting to get started, and then just after surgery.

Wendy showed great courage.  She really did not want to be there, but she did what needed to be done.  The surgery took over 6 hours.  It was delicate intricate work getting the tumor away from important things, like her optic nerves and carotid arteries.  The pituitary gland was encased in the tumor so it had to be removed as well.  This means that Wendy will be relying on synthetic hormones for her entire life.  The good news is there are synthetic hormones and radiation will not be needed.

Over the first night Wendy developed a beautiful black eye.  It just got blacker and puffier as the night went on.  Her pain did not grow with it so that was a blessing.

Shakamak State Park

We spent Friday night and Saturday morning at a cabin in Shakamak State Park about 2 hour south west of our home.  Although there were some troubles getting into the cabin, once in we had a great time, even with the bugs.

On the way home we stopped at Cataract Falls Recreation Area. We got to freeze as we saw the upper and lower falls and a covered bridge.  This was a great little family jaunt before Wendy's surgery/
