Noho Marae
Eric, Wendy and Hyrum had the opportunity to attend a Noho Marae or an overnight trip to a Maori sight to learn about Maori culture. It was a great experience. Sabrina and I were lucky enough to attend as helpers both days, although we did not spend the night.
The Marae. It was beautifully carved.
Mealtimes were hectic, but fun.
We had a few mini classes. The kids are demonstrating their skills with a poi.
Here the kids are coloring a picture of a Taniwha, or sea monster. They also learned how to draw one and acted out a legend about how Wellington Harbor was made, it involved two Taniwha.
Learning Expo
At the end of each term the kids have a learning expo where we can see what they have been doing. This term Eric and Wendy made games. Eric's was a battleship type game dealing with pollution. Wendy's was a game encouraging us not to smoke. Hyrum's hub did projects based on friendship. He built a friendship train that had papers for people to write nice things about others.
