We spent the last days of our vacation exploring Washington D.C.
National Air and Space Museum- Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center
This was an awesome museum/air hanger. We particularly loved the space shuttle and space displays.
The Marine Corp War Memorial
I have always wanted to see this memorial and it was more impressive in person than in a picture. Written around the memorial are the wars that Marines have given their lives in from 1775 until today.
The Hirshhorn Museum of Modern Art
This is one of the Smithsonian Museums located along the Mall area of D.C. We visited first thing so the younger kids could participate in an Art Cart activity. They made collages based on a piece at the museum that uses words to make art. They had fun. We then went through a few exhibits and discovered that some modern art is beautiful and some just leaves you scratching your head.
The National Museum of Natural History We started at a slower pace, but then Kyle said lets just go through all the exhibits quickly stop if it is really interesting. It worked well. We were able to see a lot of things, but not take forever. You could spend hours!
The Memorials and Monuments around the Mall
We spent the evening walking/riding a bus to see the different memorials and monuments around the Mall. We saw The Thomas Jefferson Memorial, The Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, The Lincoln Memorial, The Korean War Veterans Memorial, The Vietnam Veterans Memorial, The Washington Monument, and The National World War II Memorial.
The Cherry Blossoms were just finishing their blooming season, so we saw a few.
