The Colonial Triangle consists of Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Yorktown all in Virginia. We spent an afternoon in Yorktown, a full day in Williamsburg and then the morning in Jamestown. Each had some interesting things to learn about.
Yorktown Battlefield Visitor Center and Yorktown Victory Monument
This was a nice museum with a little walk to the monument. There was a video that nicely explained what happen in Yorktown and why it was important in the Revolutionary War.
Yorktown Battlefield
The kids are walking along the siege lines. We were also able to drive and see and read about major things that happened during the battle in Yorktown, this was the last major battle of the Revolutionary War.
American Revolution Museum at Yorktown
We spent some time exploring the museum exhibits and enjoying the outdoor living exhibits. This was a museum that was well layed out, and interesting. We could have easily spent more time.
Colonial Williamsburg - Virginia
We spent the day discovering Colonial Williamsburg. We had fun learning about how people lived in colonial Virginia. The wigmaker, print shop, and blacksmith were particularly interesting. In the evening we were able to attend a palace concert that played songs and instruments from that period as well.
The kids really enjoyed the special archeology sites that were open for the week. Here they are sifting through dirt for artifacts. We found nails, pottery, bricks, and glass.
Jamestown Settlement
This site was similar to the American Revolution Museum. It had a museum portion and outdoor living exhibits. We spent most of our time outdoors experiencing Paspahegh Town (a Native American village), The Susan Constant (the largest of the ships that brought the first settlers), and Jamestown Fort.
