Fall Break: Cincinnati (Day 7)

Our last stop was in Cincinnati.  We drove there by way of Hopewell Mounds National Historic Site.  This was a site where the Hopewell Indians built mounds, they were part of some of their ceremonies, including cremation.  The mounds are not just dirt piled up but a specific layer by layer plan of clay, gravel, and soil.

In Cincinnati we visited Jungle Jims a huge International Grocery Store.  6 Football fields of a lot of food.  We bought a little something to try from each continent.  The store has a scavenger hunt you can do and maps so you can find what you want.  It was an adventure.

We then visited the Cincinnati Art Museum.  The museum was quite nice for it's price (free).

My favorite was this picture of a mother playing patty-cake with her baby.

Fall Break: The Cabin (days3,4,&5)

We spent a lot of time relaxing at the cabin, playing Minecraft, using the Hot Tub, and trying our hand fishing at the pond on the property.  It was a great family time to relax.

We went on one fieldtrip that was not a hike during our stay.  It was to the Jack Pine glass blowing shop.  The artists were making pumpkins and were very willing to answer questions and explain the process.  The girls found it especially interesting to watch.  We came home with a few items as well.

Fall Break: Hocking Hills Hikes (Days 3,4,&5)

We spent 3 days at a cabin in the Hocking Hills.  Each day we went on a hike, and enjoyed the beautiful changing colors of Fall.  This is a beautiful part of Ohio and had numerous gorgeous hikes up and down the hills.

Boch Nature Preserve Hike

This picture was taken seconds before the log they were standing on broke.  No children were hurt in the taking of this picture, but there was some adrenalin pumping.

Natural Bridge Hike

Old Man's Cave Hike

Cedar Falls Hike

Ash Cave Hike

An interesting thing that happened on this hike was a wedding.  We got to the cave just when a couple were starting to say their vows.  It was a fun thing to watch.
