Fall Break: Part 4

 We spent Thursday discovering the east side of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.  It was chilly, but the rain held off until we were in the car every time.

 

Kyle braved the wild waves and touched Lake Superior for the first time.

Sable Falls

There were a lot of stairs to get to the waterfalls, and then even more to get down to the water, but it was a beautiful hike.

We then stopped at a few overlooks for Lake Superior and a short hike to see Grand Sable Dunes.  We had an enjoyable afternoon.

Fall Break: Part 5

 Waterfalls was the theme of our Friday excursions.  We headed to Munising area and saw 5 waterfalls.

Our first stop was at Miner's Outlook.  There we found a Hawaii license plate.  We found 34 of the states which was surprising for how remote the places we went were.

The first waterfall we stopped by was Munising Falls.  It was a beautiful short hike in gorgeous fall colors topped by a beautiful waterfall.  

Tannery Falls was the next falls we tried to see.  The trail was very muddy, so we did not hike down to the falls but tried to see what we could.

Alger Falls was next.  This falls is literally on the side of the road.  There was a little trail to get closer, but we saw a woman slipping and sliding around in the mud and decided a picture from the parking lot would be fine.

Wagner Falls was another nice short hike to another nice waterfalls.  The kids were wondering if we were going to see anything else. 

Our next stop was the beach.  The kids had fun racing the waves, and finding 

On our way back to the cabin we stopped at one more waterfalls, Au Train Falls.  This falls was very interesting as it was wide and terraced.  The 2nd photo was of a weeping rock wall on the hike to the falls.

School Days

Sabrina is in Mrs Proctor's first grade class.  She was excited to have a nice teacher and learn.  School is a bit different this year, in her words "We have to wear a mask and stay far away from people"

With Covid-19 changes, Hyrum moved classes this year to Mrs. Schemerhorn.  He is part of the Wondrous Weirdos 2.0. (The class named themselves).  He is excited to be with other kids.

 August 20, 2020 the 4 youngest had well-child appointments and dentist appointments.  It was a hectic day.  They are all growing well and are healthy.  Here are the kids stats.

Eric: 5 foot 3.5 inches (yes, he is taller than me.)

Wendy: 4 foot 3.5 inches 

Hyrum: 4 foot 3.75 inches (yes, he is taller than Wendy)

Sabrina: 3 foot 9 inches

Schwieder Reunion: The Knights of Flamm

Reunions are always fun!!  Schwieder Reunion 2020 was no different, if fact it may have been a bit more fun because of the lack of other activities this summer.  Quarantine!  Everyone's families were able to come and cousing were able to play.  It was very enjoyable.

Big Springs is a big spring that comes right out of the mountain.  This pictures show how clear and clean the water is.  There was a nice short hike to a historic homestead located right at the spring.

Each family was assigned a cutlure/race- Mom and Dad were oracles, Kyle was the tyrant with his minions, we were the Knights of Flamm, Brett's family were dwarves, Tammie's family were wizards, Shanalee's family were elves, and Todd was the dragon master.  Todd prepared a Dungeons and Dragons type adventure for us to go on.  We had a glorious time.
