Wendy's Hospital Adventure

The Hospital - Ascension St Vincent - Peyton Manning Children's Hospital
The hospital for the first few days was just like you would expect. Wendy was tired and she got a beautiful black eye.  It was swollen shut for the first 3 days after surgery.

After the eye started healing Wendy was overall a very healthy hospital patient.  We stayed in the PICU because her hormone vasopressin was out of whack.  She was an atypical case, in that her sodium did not go super high when she did not have the hormone.  This was worrisome because giving the synthetic hormone (desmopressin) would cause it to lower.  Low blood sodium can cause problems.  This led to blood draws every 2-6 hours which kept us in the PICU for her entire 12 day stay.  She also got a Pic line so the blood draws were easier.  This also allowed her to move around.  Above we participated in a Tutu party on 2/22/22 at 2:22pm.

Toward the end of her stay she was ready to go home.  She wrote her own plan "ESCAPE"  When she was required to fast for 15 hours, she was miserable and the plan even included escaping out the window.  After she was able to drink it just became a fun thing.

Sunday in the hospital included a few fieldtrips.  Wendy wrote a nice note to the nurses, posed by her favorite animal photo, played Headbanz, and visited family outside (due to Covid-19 visitor restrictions).

We got to go home on Monday, February 28th.  It was a great day!  She came home a very healthy, vibrant young woman.  She had done all her healing during her 12 days at the hospital.

  1. Wow, I've never seen a black eye quite like that but I'm glad Wendy is back to looking normally beautiful. I like to see the pictures.
