Arts on the Avenue

The school, Madison Avenue Elementary, that the boys go to has a great arts program, that is funded primarily by grants and money raised at the annual fundraiser Arts on the Avenue.  It has a silent auction, the students artwork, items to make, and performances by local groups.  It was fun.

The second grade classes learn to play the recorder second semester and perform that evening.  Each class was assigned a 15 minute slot to perform.  Zachary's class went first, which made it easy for us.  He did a great job and really got into the beat of the music.

Zachary also had the opportunity to be a greeter at Arts on the Avenue.  All the Pathway students chose a famous Mississippian and dressed up as them to greet.  The following week they had a Living Museum for all the classes.  They wrote and memorized a spiel about their Mississippian and when someone touched their arm they would come alive and tell them about who they were.  Zachary was Jim Henson of Muppet fame.  Unfortunately, the camera was missing during the actual Museum, but at least I got a few of Jim Henson the greeter.

  1. Pathways seems to be giving Zachary some good active learning. That is good. I would love to hear him play the recorder. I have one if he has any music he can bring. (good idea for our campfire program)
